The first thing you have to do is be able to build a page or site on your own computer. This page was built using Microsoft Publisher (98)……..once it is built it is saved as HTML. The first page will automatically be index.html and once it is uploaded it will be your start page on our site whenever anyone clicks on your username.
The next step is to join and submit the form. You will immediately receive an e-mail with a link to click to signup with a "username" and "description" + password etc. for editing your page. Click the link provided and fill out the form. Your "username" should be your last name and initials or complete name - since you are wanting other families with your name to be able to locate you and vice versa. Do not use spaces but you may use the underscore - if you do it wrong it will inform you of that. The "description" should be more information that you want the world to read about your family and something to bring them to click your link (username). Once this is complete you will be sent to another screen for you to verify your information - click on the button "login to Manager". This will take you to a new screen.
At this point you will need to go to the top button that says "browse" …. Click it. A screen will come up - this screen is your computer! You will need to locate your page or site that you built on your computer (be certain to open as "all files") and upload the first one by clicking open. Then click the second "browse" button and click on the second item in your list and click "open" again. Do this for all five "browse" buttons then click "upload". If you have more than five "all file types" repeat this step until every one of the files is uploaded. Once this is done you need to make certain that you have uploaded a page titled "index.html" (this is your first or index page). If you have it named something other than index.html you will need to click the button to the left of the page name and it will become highlighted in the space near the top…...rename it "index.html" and click rename.
Once this is done you should be able to click the link near the top right of the page on your screen that says something like = http://www.1234family.com/(your name or letter of the alphabet)/(yourusername) and your page should appear on the screen. This will be your own family web site on 1234family.com. You will be able to edit it anytime with your username and password, give it out to everyone you know as your own family web page and others from around the world will be able to view it by clicking your username anytime they are researching their family history.
If you cannot build a page on your computer you will not be able to use this service unless you get someone to do it for you that has that ability or software on their computer. If you cannot do this you may signup anyway and reserve your username - if you believe that you will be able to finish your page or site within a reasonable time. Pages that do not have any content may be deleted and removed from our site at our discretion.
